What a TikTok marketing agency should handle in 2026
TikTok ads now run mostly on automation. Smart+ campaigns pick audiences, placements and budget splits for you, and GMV Max does the same for TikTok Shop. That leaves one big lever in your hands: the creative. The account that feeds the algorithm the most distinct, native-looking videos usually wins, and the account running the same polished brand spot for six weeks usually stalls.
So a TikTok ads agency that only buys media is half a team. You need people who can write hooks, film in volume, brief creators, get Spark Ads codes, set up the pixel and Events API, and fix the page the traffic lands on. We do all of that as one team, which is the whole point of a turnkey social media campaign.
On the US question: TikTok's American business has run through the TikTok USDS Joint Venture since January 2026, and Ads Manager, In-Feed ads and TopView kept running through the change. We plan TikTok as a core channel, with Meta and YouTube Shorts in the same plan so no single platform holds your revenue hostage.
TikTok ad formats we use, and when
Format names change often on TikTok. These are the ones in Ads Manager as of late 2026.
Spark Ads
Ads that run from a real post, on your account or a creator's, so likes, comments and follows stack on the original. Creators authorize a post with a code that lasts 7, 30, 60 or 365 days. This is our default format.
Non-Spark In-Feed ads
Uploaded straight to Ads Manager without a public post. Useful for quick variant tests and for edits you do not want sitting on your profile.
Smart+ campaigns
TikTok's automated campaign type. You supply the creative pool and the goal; it handles targeting and budget. Works well once you have 10 or more distinct videos, poorly with three.
GMV Max
Since July 2025 the only supported campaign type for TikTok Shop ads. It optimizes for shop sales across your videos, affiliate videos, product cards and LIVE.
TopView and reach buys
Reserved, first-video-on-open placements for launch days. Expensive and brand-led, so we use them for big product drops, not for always-on selling.
Symphony creative tools
TikTok's built-in AI tools for avatars, dubbing and script help. Handy for translating a winner into a new market. We do not use them in place of real people on camera.
TikTok video specs that change the creative
| Spec | TikTok requirement | How we film for it |
|---|---|---|
| Aspect ratio | 9:16 vertical; 1080 x 1920 recommended, 540 x 960 minimum | Shot vertical on phones or vertical rigs, never cropped from horizontal |
| Length | In-Feed ads accept 5 to 60 seconds | Most sales ads land between 9 and 30 seconds; we test both ends |
| Hook window | No rule, but most viewers decide in the first 1 to 2 seconds | Every concept gets 3 to 5 alternate openings on the same body |
| Sound | TikTok is built as a sound-on feed | Voiceover, native audio and on-screen captions together |
| Safe zones | Caption, buttons and CTA cover the right edge and bottom | Text and product kept in the center band |

TikTok Shop agency work: GMV Max, affiliates and margin
If you sell physical products in the US, TikTok Shop changes the plan. Buyers check out without leaving the app, so the funnel is short. The cost moves from your ad account into fees: a referral fee per order (check your rate in Seller Center; most categories sat between 6% and 8% in 2026) plus the commission you offer affiliate creators, typically 8% to 20%.
Because GMV Max is now the only way to run Shop ads, the work is mostly upstream. We set a target ROI that your margin can survive, then feed the campaign with fresh videos every week: our own, UGC creators on paid briefs, and affiliates who post for commission. GMV Max rewards a deep pool of videos far more than clever settings.
Not every brand belongs on Shop. If your product needs explaining, sells above about $100, or you want the email address, a Spark Ad pointing to a campaign landing page often beats in-app checkout. Many brands run both.
How we run a TikTok ads campaign
Brief and plan
You email your brand, goal and launch date. Within 48 hours you get a concept and a TikTok launch plan, free.
Angles and hooks
We write 3 to 5 angles (problem, demo, comparison, founder story, reaction) and several hooks for each, scripted for TikTok, not reused from Instagram.
Produce in volume
A launch set is usually 15 to 30 videos: our edits, creator videos and stitches of real comments. Volume is how you find a winner.
Launch organic and paid together
Videos post on your account first. The ones that hold attention get Spark Ads spend behind them, so paid starts with social proof.
Optimize weekly
Every week we cut the bottom performers, film variants of the top ones and fix the weakest step after the click.
What TikTok ads cost
Media and creative are separate lines. Here is the math we use when planning a first month.
| Cost line | Typical range (2026) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| CPM (cost per 1,000 views) | About $4 to $13, most accounts $6 to $10 | Higher in Q4 and in crowded categories |
| Minimum budget | Over $50 a day per campaign, over $20 a day per ad group | TikTok's own floors |
| Useful test budget | $4,500 a month and up | Three ad groups at $50 a day; less starves learning |
| Creator videos | Paid per video plus usage rights | See what UGC costs |
| TikTok Shop | Referral fee plus 8% to 20% affiliate commission | Charged per order, not per view |
CPM ranges are third-party 2026 benchmarks and vary by industry. Your account data replaces them within two weeks. More detail in our TikTok ads cost guide.
TikTok mistakes we see brands make
- Running the TV spot or a polished Meta ad with a 9:16 crop. It reads as an ad in half a second.
- Launching three videos and calling TikTok "not our platform" after a week.
- Skipping Spark Ads, so paid views earn nothing on your profile.
- No Events API or a broken pixel, so Smart+ optimizes toward the wrong people.
- Sending TikTok traffic to a slow desktop-first product page.
- Setting a GMV Max ROI target your margin cannot cover after affiliate fees.
- Paying creators without usage rights for ads, then having to pay again.
Case study: a new product launch
We launched a new product. In 2 weeks, these are the results.
- 115kfollowers, starting from zero
- 7,000+emails collected
- 100+purchases across an app, a book and a paid community
No audience, no list and no sales on day one. Organic content earned the follow, a landing page captured the email, and three offers closed the sale. Read the case study.
