The short answer: what social media agencies charge in 2026
The cheapest number you will see is not the number most brands end up paying. In HeyOrca's 2026 agency pricing benchmark of almost 100 agencies, 31% charge under $1,000 a month per client, 49% charge $1,000 to $2,499, 9% charge $2,500 to $4,999 and only 3% charge $5,000 or more.
Those packages are built around organic posting. Content creation shows up in 97% of them and scheduling in 96%, but paid social is included in just 18%. So the $1,000 to $2,500 band buys you someone to plan, make and publish posts. It rarely buys you ads, ad creative in volume, or anyone accountable for sales.
Once you add short-form video, paid media and weekly testing, the price moves into a different band. Swydo's 2026 agency pricing roundup puts social media retainers anywhere from $500 to $20,000 a month, with premium packages (40+ posts, every platform, video) at $5,000 to $10,000+ and enterprise programs at $10,000 to $20,000+.
What agencies say sets their price: time and resources required (66% of HeyOrca respondents), amount of content (60%), services included (57%) and client size or budget (42%). Number of social profiles matters far less (18%). In practice that means video volume and paid media are what push a quote from four figures to five.
Social media agency pricing by service
Typical US prices as of 2026. Each line is priced separately by most agencies, which is why quotes vary so much.
| Service | Typical 2026 price | What moves the price |
|---|---|---|
| Freelance social media manager | $1,750 to $2,765 a month (HeyOrca survey averages by experience) | Years of experience, number of platforms, posts per week |
| Organic social media management (agency) | $1,000 to $5,000 a month | Platforms, posting volume, community management hours, how much content they shoot |
| Paid social management | 10% to 20% of ad spend, usually with a monthly minimum | Ad spend, number of platforms, how many creative tests a month |
| Short-form video production | $1,000 to $3,000 per finished 15 to 30 second video at agency rates | Shoot days, talent, location, motion graphics, number of cutdowns |
| UGC creator videos | $150 to $300 per video before usage rights | Creator experience, paid usage term, hooks and variations |
| Influencer posts | Nano $100 to $500, micro $500 to $2,500, macro $2,500 to $10,000+ | Audience size, platform, usage rights, exclusivity |
| Full campaign retainer (creative + ads + reporting) | $3,500 to $20,000+ a month | Creative volume, platforms, landing page work, testing cadence |

Social media management pricing: what each tier usually buys
Package names differ, but most agency menus fall into these four bands.
$500 to $1,500 a month
10 to 20 posts a month on 1 or 2 platforms. Mostly graphics and repurposed content, light community management, a monthly report. Fine for staying visible. Not a growth plan.
$1,500 to $5,000 a month
20 to 40 posts across 3 or 4 platforms, some original short-form video, daily community management. HeyOrca's 2024 survey put the average retainer at $2,107 for three platforms, three posts a week each and 5 to 10 hours of community work.
$5,000 to $10,000+ a month
40+ posts, every platform, regular video shoots, usually paid social management. This is where creative volume becomes high enough to feed ad testing.
$10,000 to $20,000+ a month
Full strategy, real-time engagement, multiple shoots, creators, paid media across platforms and senior people on the account. Common for national consumer brands.
What is not in the retainer (and catches brands out)
Ad spend. You pay TikTok, Meta or Google directly. On TikTok the floor is a $50 daily campaign budget and $20 a day per ad group, per TikTok's budget rules. Real testing budgets are higher. Our TikTok ads cost guide has the math.
Creator and influencer fees. A UGC video typically costs $150 to $300 before you pay extra to run it as an ad. Paid usage rights add roughly 30% to 50%. Full rates are in our UGC cost breakdown.
Shoots and product. Shoot days, talent, props and the product you send to creators are often passed through at cost.
The page the ads point to. Most social agencies stop at the click. If the landing page, offer or email capture needs work, that is a web project with its own quote. This is the gap we built our campaign landing pages and funnels service to close.
Real cost math: three monthly budgets
What a month of social actually costs once you add the lines agencies leave out. Mid-range figures from the table above.
| Line item | Stay visible | Test paid social | Scale a campaign |
|---|---|---|---|
| Agency fee | $1,500 | $4,000 | $10,000 |
| Ad spend (paid to platforms) | $0 | $3,000 | $20,000 |
| Creator / UGC fees | $0 | $1,500 (6 videos with paid rights) | $5,000 (15 to 20 videos) |
| Shoots, product, extras | $0 | $300 | $2,000 |
| Total monthly cost | $1,500 | $8,800 | $37,000 |
| Share going to media | 0% | 34% | 54% |
Illustrative. The point is the ratio: in the first column none of the money buys reach. In the last, most of it does.
How social media agencies price: hourly, retainer, project or % of spend
Retainers are the default. HeyOrca found agencies almost always price this way, and it suits ongoing posting and ad management.
Hourly is common for freelancers and audits. HeyOrca's survey average was $66.96 an hour. Swydo puts agency rates at $75 to $150 for small shops, $125 to $200 for mid-size and $150 to $300+ for large agencies.
Percentage of ad spend is how many paid social agencies charge, typically 10% to 20% with a monthly minimum so small accounts still pay a floor. Watch this model at high spend: a 15% fee on $50,000 a month is $7,500 whether or not the creative changes.
Project fees cover one-off launches. A launch is mostly creative, so the price tracks how many videos get made. Eight agency-produced shorts at $1,000 to $3,000 each is $8,000 to $24,000 before strategy, ads or a landing page. Built on UGC instead, the same volume can cost a fraction of that.
Revenue share ties the fee to results: a lower upfront fee plus a percentage of the sales the agency helps create, tracked at the client's checkout. Agency pricing guides in 2026 commonly cite roughly 10% to 30% of attributed revenue, usually with a base fee, though those figures are self-reported. It suits creators and brands with a good offer but lumpy cash flow. The catch is that a big month means a big fee, so pin down which sales count. Our revenue share partnerships page explains how we set it up.
Where our pricing sits, and who it is right for
We are not the cheapest option, and we are not trying to be. A campaign launch starts from $5,000 one-off and covers strategy, the concept, creative production, ad setup, a campaign landing page, launch and a first round of optimization with a results report. Always-on campaigns start from $3,500 a month for fresh creative every month, ad management, weekly testing, reporting and posting. Ad spend and creator fees are separate and paid directly. The full breakdown is on our pricing page.
Against the market, the always-on price sits above the $1,000 to $2,500 posting packages most agencies sell, and at the low end of retainers that include ad management and new video every month. The launch fee sits well under what you would pay to buy strategy, video, ads and a landing page from separate vendors.
Right for you if you want a campaign that sells, you can fund ad spend on top of the fee, and you would rather have one team accountable than manage a paid social agency, a video shop and a web freelancer. Not right for you if you only need posts scheduled. A freelancer or a basic social media management package will do that for less. If you are weighing a hire instead, our in-house vs agency comparison runs the salary math.

How to keep social media agency costs down
- Write a clear brief with one goal and one launch date. Vague briefs cost revision rounds.
- Ask for a cost per finished video and per ad test, then compare agencies on that, not on the retainer.
- Keep ad accounts, pixels and pages in your own business account so switching agency costs nothing.
- Start with 2 platforms, not 5. Spread thin, every platform gets too little budget to learn.
- Buy UGC with paid usage rights up front. Adding rights later is usually more expensive.
- Agree a test period (60 to 90 days) with clear numbers before signing a long contract.
- Get two or three proposals and line them up using the questions in our guide to choosing a social media agency.
